There are nine areas covered by the Expanded Core Curriculum. These areas cover concepts that are not explicitly taught in the general educational setting. The reason this is important is that there are concepts that need to be addressed in a different way because opportunities to learn through observation may be missed by individuals with visual impairments. Also, there are specialized skills that these individuals will need to access their educational environment.
